Patron leaves Claritas for consultancy role

Mark Patron is leaving Claritas UK to set up his own database marketing consultancy.
Patron, currently the executive vice-president of VNU Marketing Information Europe, has spent 14 years setting up and running database marketing businesses. He oversaw some of the major changes at Claritas, including the merger of NDL International, CMT and Claritas Micromarketing, (PM, January 12, 1998).
That merger was part of a worldwide realignment of Claritas, which included the launch of the company under a single Claritas brand in 1998, when Patron was appointed UK managing director.
Patron will continue to work for VNU on a consultative basis but says he has already been approached by US "household name database companies".
Having experienced major shake-ups in the database industry over the last 14 years, Patron says that the next wave of change will occur in e-mail marketing. "It is like direct marketing was in the mid-Eighties, with the same growing pains," he says.
Patron will not be replaced; VNU Marketing Information Europe and Asia chairman Peter Tordoir will take over Patron's developmental role.
